The Fall went through so many lineup changes and reincarnations, but possibly my favourite was when Mark E Smith reinvented himself as a fresh faced young man with an innocent face and a dark inner life. The jazz-punk chords (not unlike the guitarisation of Pete Brock) and the loose drumming were such a discontinuity of all output from the band before and after and for many Fall fans, there is a real issue with whether to accept this lost child into their orphanage of disciplined grinding hipster meanderings.
I say no.
I say yes.
I say whatever I have to say to make it right.
Then I fall silent and I listen.
