Kitty Yittk: De Staat: Großartig

 

Very little music merits the description grandiose, or großartig as my papa would have said it.

Kitty Kitty is made by humans but it sounds like it was made by a machine.

One thousand exquisitely thin sheets of glass, each etched with a tiny piece of the performance, digitised and manipulated into a caricature of itself, the same and yet perverted. Each layer sliding over the one before to build a sound, to build a song, growing and growing. Then at the midpoint smashed.

Shattered to one million shards, each carrying a small twisted piece of information. Digital sound fucked up so much that it sounds once more analogue.

Then the layers rebuild once again to the climax.

There are real musicians in this band. Gristle, puss, sweat and piss. I wonder when they hear the song whether they recognise the moments when they played an instrument and their sounds were taken from them and reframed and rebuilt.
