Frantic Drift, Tinderbox

Some songs need a wall of sound. When Huge Big Massive stepped up from a plucky three pop three piece with a drum machine, to a fourpiece groove-machine their songs took on a whole new dimension.

Some songs need calm and simplicity, see for example my recent review of Po! who grow in the shrinking.

Frantic Drift deliver simply. Their songs give each instrument space, and they go at the pace of their own choosing. They aren't chasing cars. They take the song with the speed and the energy that is right for it. So this one, Tinderbox, recorded live in Leicester, just works. It works because everything is in its place. You can watch it again and again and the bass works with the vocals and the guitar works with the drums. Some bands work for hours to get that sense of natural, I suspect Frantic Drift achieve it just by being the right people at the right time.

A real guilty pleasure. Free from affectation and high on quality.
